So you want to know the best places to eat in Destin? Welcome to the right place 🙂
My boyfriend and I recently went on a week long road trip to Destin and Gulf Shores. Outside of being at the beach, the only other thing to really do is EAT.
One thing I always try to do is visit local restaurants. Eating at a chain restaurant while on vacation in a new place just seems like a disservice to the place you’re visiting so, we always try to eat local! Side note – “local” for us means any place that we do not have in our home town so it could still be a chain in the area we visit but it’s new to us!
Without further ado, here are the best places to eat in Destin!
Another Broken Egg Cafe
So yummy!! We visited Another Broken Egg located at Baytowne Wharf – I think any other time outside of the pandemic, it would be VERY busy but we got lucky.
- Must Try: Lemon Curd Stuffed French Toast (seasonal during the summer); The Supreme Omelette; Sausage Patties (honestly the best I’ve ever had); Cold Brew Coffee with Caramel
Maple Street Biscuit Company
I love a good biscuit smothered in sausage gravy! Plus, I really liked Maple Street’s philosophy of getting to know the people who visit – they have a “question of the month” that they ask you and that becomes your order name they call when it’s ready (our question was “what is your alma mater”).
- Must Try: The Five or Risky Biscuit
Pompano Joe’s had the BEST view of all the restaurants we visited, hands down. The food however was not the best, but I don’t think I ordered the right thing. I had the blackened scallops and they just didn’t taste fresh.
Keep in mind that because of the beautiful views, this place is always super busy so expect a wait!
- Must Try: Reggae Rolls; Jumbo Gulf Shrimp
Captain Dave’s on the Gulf
My favorite meal of the trip was at Captain Dave’s! It was SO phenomenal I didn’t even get a picture 🙁
- Must Try: Stuffed Shrimp Parmesan!! Blackened Grouper

Bad Ass Coffee
We went here every single day of our trip! I will say, the coffee was delicious, however, it was a little inconsistent. Some days it was the best coffee I’d ever had and some days, it was just meh.
- Must Try: Monkey Mocha Latte; Nutty Irishman Latte (I ordered both with coconut milk)
Sunset Bay Cafe
This was another restaurant located on the Sandestin Resort property. If you do visit, ask for a table on the patio as the inside tables don’t offer that great of views.
- Must Try: Spicy Pig Omelette
Hammerhead’s Bar & Grille
Another restaurant located at Baytowne Wharf on the Sandestin Resort property. Hammerheads has a fun atmosphere, live music, and decent views!
- Must Try: Chicken Nachos
- Must Drink: The Mango
If you want a little fancier date night restaurant, this is the place to go! Located at Baytowne Wharf as well and quite possibly one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. As a note, the sides are very large portions.
- Must Try: Ribeye
Moo La-La Ice Cream & Desserts
“Life is like ice cream, enjoy it before it melts.”
- Must Try: Literally anything but I loved the coconut ice cream!
